Website Update:
The National City Police Department Cadet Post (#2859) is a youth program for ages 14 to 20, created to inspire the next generation of law enforcement professionals. Through hands on training and community service, cadets gain a firsthand look at the responsibilities of a police officer while learning the values of integrity, respect, and service. More than just a program, it’s a path that has led many young men and women to discover their passion for public safety and begin meaningful careers in law enforcement.
The Police Cadet Program, part of the Explorer Scouts under the Boy Scouts of America, includes Post 2859, which is chartered through the organization and sponsored in part by the National City Police Department. In addition to scouting and social events, cadets may qualify for various college scholarship opportunities. Sworn police officers serve as advisors, providing supervision and support for all post activities.

Duties include directing traffic, managing crowds at special events, and assisting with law enforcement presentations, all under the guidance of field officers. Beyond these responsibilities, cadets have the opportunity to engage in rewarding social activities such as field trips, camping, and scouting events throughout San Diego County and across the country—providing valuable experience and fostering leadership in a dynamic and supportive environment.
