Proud to Serve National City**Mayor Ron Morrison** Ron Morrison is a lifelong resident of National City and the surrounding area. Growing up in San Diego County’s second-oldest city instilled in him a deep appreciation for its rich history, cultural diversity, and close-knit community spirit. His commitment to service—whether in uniform, in the neighborhood, or at City Hall—has been a constant throughout his life. Ron proudly served in the U.S. Army and is a devoted family man. Long before holding elected office, he was a passionate community advocate. He championed property rights, led grassroots efforts against outside political interests, and consistently stood up to City Hall in defense of National City’s residents. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, he earned recognition from regional media as a fierce and tireless voice for the people—referred to by the Los Angeles Times as "National City’s community activist," and by the San Diego Union as "National City’s Sixth Councilman." Ron’s hands-on approach—whether working on complex policy issues, organizing neighborhood cleanups, or hauling trash for seniors—has always defined his leadership style. Frustrated with the system but unwilling to stand on the sidelines, he stepped up to create change from within. A Proven Record of Leadership Ron was elected to the National City Council in 1992 and served four terms before being elected Mayor in 2006. He was re-elected twice before becoming the first elected official in the city’s history to be termed out. His public service didn’t end there—he returned to the City Council in 2018, and in 2022, was once again elected Mayor. Now in his 33rd year of elected service to National City, Ron has not only shaped local government but also held key leadership roles at the regional, state, and national levels. Leadership Positions Held
Legacy & Commitment Over the decades, Ron has received numerous civic and humanitarian awards. Yet the recognition he values most is seeing the progress made in National City—from improved public services and cleaner neighborhoods to stronger representation and community pride. This citizen turned Councilman turned Mayor turned Councilman and then Mayor again has remained deeply rooted in the community he calls home. His leadership is grounded in dedication, a clear vision for the future, and a firm belief that local government works best when it works for the people.
