Getting a Library Card

There are two type of library cards available, a full privilege and an eCard. The full privilege card allows cardholders to take advantage of all of the library's resources including checking out physical items and accessing electronic resources. The eCard ONLY provides access to eResources and is valid for 90 days. Physical items can not be checked out with the eCard.

Library Card (Full Privilege)

Residents of California may obtain a library card (full privilede) upon presentation of a current picture ID and proof of address.

  • Mail postmarked within last 30 days

  • Utility Bill

  • Parents or guardians must be present to sign application and show their ID and proof of address for teens and children under 18 years of age.
  • The National City Public Library is not connected with any other libraries in the San Diego County Area. You may only use your card at the National City Public Library.

 eCards allow users to access the library's eResources (databases, ebooks, emagazines, streaming media) along with  it's computers and internet connection. No physical material can be checked out using the eCard. Parents or guardians consent required. eCard is only valid for 90 days.
