Experience a Day in the Life of a Firefighter

Have you ever wondered what it's like to serve as a firefighter?  The National City Fire Department's Ride-Along Program provides qualified participants with a firsthand opportunity to observe the daily responsibilities of firefighters and gain a better understanding of the fire service profession.

Whether you're pursuing a career as a firefighter, paramedic, or emergency medical professional, a ride-along offers valuable insight into emergency response, teamwork, training, and station life.

What You'll Experience

Participants may have the opportunity to observe:

• Emergency response operations
• Daily fire station activities
• Equipment inspections and apparatus readiness
• Firefighter training
• Emergency medical responses
• Community service activities

Ride-alongs provide a realistic look at the responsibilities, professionalism, and commitment required to serve in today's fire service.

Who May Participate?

The Ride-Along Program is intended for individuals who are actively pursuing a career in the fire service or emergency medical services and who meet the Department's eligibility requirements.

Applicants must meet all program requirements and complete the required application and waiver before participating.

Important Information

For the safety of participants, firefighters, and the public:

• Ride-alongs are by appointment only.
• Participants must follow all Department policies and safety instructions.
• Ride-alongs are observational experiences.  Participants may not perform firefighting or patient care activities.
• Emergency responses and station activities may affect the schedule.
