Typical Minimum Job Requirements:
- 18 years of age
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Valid California Driver’s License
- Possession of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT1A) Certificate at the time of hire
Highly Desirable Qualities:
- Paramedic License
- Fire Academy Certificate
- Career/ Volunteer Firefighting Experience
Obtaining a Fire Science Degree, Paramedic License, and Fire Academy Certificate are all very important and can be obtained locally from San Diego Miramar College and Southwestern College.
Mental Characteristics:
- Self-motivated
- Team Player
- Desire to serve and help people
- Ability to work in diverse communities
- Ability to follow directions
- Ability to think on your feet under stressful conditions
Physical Characteristics:
- Ability to successfully pass the firefighter Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) or other fire academy physical ability test
