Investing in the Next Generation of Public Safety Professionals
The National City Fire Department believes that today's students are tomorrow's firefighters, paramedics, and emergency medical professionals. Through partnerships with community organizations, we help support students who are pursuing careers dedicated to protecting and serving others.
Our Fire & EMS Scholarship Program assists eligible students with the cost of education and training, helping remove financial barriers as they prepare for careers in the fire service and emergency medical services.
Scholarship Opportunity
Through a partnership between American Medical Response (AMR) and the City of National City, up to $6,000 in scholarship funding may be available for eligible Sweetwater Union High School students pursuing Fire Technology, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Paramedic education.
Scholarship funds may be used for:
- College tuition
- Textbooks
- Uniforms
- Required supplies
- Other approved educational expenses
Eligibility
Eligible applicants should demonstrate a commitment to serving the National City community while pursuing education in:
- Fire Technology
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Paramedicine
Students may attend approved programs at institutions such as:
- Southwestern College
- San Diego Miramar College
- Palomar College
Application Process
Applicants will be asked to submit an essay describing:
- Why they chose a career in Fire or EMS.
- How the scholarship will help them achieve their educational goals.
- How they intend to give back to the National City community.
