We hope that you and your families are well during this challenging time in National City and around the world.  We are working very hard to keep up with important information for employees and the community and provide some new policy measures that will further support employees as we continue to provide core services to National City.

Temporary Telecommuting Policy

Each department has been working to prioritize essential services and are creating plans to shift support and personnel to these key service areas. As a Disaster Service Worker, you may be asked to help support the city's response in any number of ways, including working from home (telecommuting) which will help with social distancing or performing duties different from your normal work assignments.  Because not all positions are well-suited for such an arrangement, your Department Director or Manager is identifying which positions are recommended to telecommute; your supervisor will be in contact if this arrangement is being considered for your position.

Emergency Advance Leave Policy

Emergency Advance Leave is for employees directly impacted by COVID-19.  This policy applies to all City employees and addresses guidelines for employees use of accruals and employees request of emergency advance leave.  We are closely monitoring federal and state legislation that addresses paid leave for emergency purposes and there may be information forthcoming once that legislation takes effect and is relevant to National City employees.

Your health and safety is a priority and the City continues to take necessary steps to prevent exposure at all city facilities.  We have been listening to employees questions and concerns.  We also have monitored other cities best practices and created a FAQ document you can access here.  The FAQ also anticipates some of the questions you may have on the following two new policies.  Please know that as things continue to evolve in the weeks ahead policies may need to be re-evaluated and adjusted to best meet the needs of the City and employees.

As you adjust to working remotely, we want to thank you for your efforts to take care of yourself and your family and reduce the risk of COVID-19 (coronavirus) exposure to others. You might be working from home for the first time or balancing your work with keeping your children busy while schools are closed. We know this is a challenging time.
