Storm Water Structural BMPs are post-construction structural elements onsite of a property that help to divert, store, and/or treat stormwater runoff. The City of National City is required to verify that the Storm Water Structural BMPs on your property area properly maintained and functioning effectively. To do this, the City will either schedule an onsite inspection or request a verification.
- Onsite Inspections: For high-priority sites with Structural BMPs, a City contractor or representative will contact you annually to schedule an onsite inspection. Failure to maintain your Structural BMPs properly may result in a follow-up inspection and/or escalated enforcement.
- Structural BMP Maintenance Verification: A City contractor or representative will issue you an annual form to fill out in order to verify that any Structural BMPs on the property are maintained and operating properly. Please complete a maintenance verification form if you have received notice to do so. Failure to provide annual verification of maintenance may result in an onsite inspection and/or escalated enforcement.
For more information on the required maintenance for the Structural BMP(s) installed on your property, refer to your property’s recorded Maintenance Agreement and/or Water Quality Technical Report, the documentation provided from the manufacturer, Project Clean Water maintenance fact sheets , or the County of San Diego’s fact sheets . The County of San Diego’s Watershed Protection Program webpage also has more information.
