Welcome to the Age-Friendly National City webpage. Age-Friendly National City is a project through AARP’s Livable Communities Initiative, with support from The San Diego Foundation Age-Friendly Communities Program. This webpage is used to share information about the project and receive input from the community about ways to increase the livability of National City.
November 20, 2019, National City officially announced their enrollment in the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities, making them the 40th community in California to enroll in the network. By joining the World Health Organization (WHO) and American Association of Retired Persons' (AARP) Age-Friendly Communities Network, joining hundreds of other cities, counties, and countries across the world, National City has taken the next step toward enhancing the quality of life in the community for people of all ages and abilities. Over the next year we will be collecting data and learning from our community about ways to increase the livability of National City across the age spectrum. AARP defines livability using the 8 Domains of Livability:
These efforts will culminate into the City's first Age-Friendly Action Plan, which will summarize our age-friendly journey and include goals for implementation of policies and programs. If you are interested in learning how you can participate in the Age-Friendly efforts, please contact Housing@nationalcityca.gov.
