National City Awarded $775,000 Caltrans Grant to Beautify Public Spaces and Offer Employment Opportunities

NATIONAL CITY, CA – The City of National City is pleased to announce it has received a $775,000 Community Cleanup & Employment Pathway (CCEP) Grant from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to assist with litter abatement, job creation, local partnerships and City beautification.

The Clean National City Revitalization & Employment Pathway Project is a transformative initiative aimed at breaking the cycle of disinvestment by addressing blight through beautification efforts and the cleanup of illegal dumping, graffiti, and vacant lots. This proactive approach enhances public health and safety, restores neighborhood pride, and helps create a more welcoming environment for investment opportunities.

By activating a people-first approach, the program also supports workforce development by hiring and training National City residents. This dual impact keeps resources within the community while fostering long-term economic growth. Together, these efforts reflect a community on the rise and present meaningful opportunities for both residents and stakeholders.

“We are deeply grateful for this investment in National City’s future,” said National City Mayor Ron Morrison. “This funding allows us to accelerate our efforts to build a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant community for all who live, work, and visit here. It represents more than progress, it reflects our unwavering commitment to community-driven revitalization, where beautification, local pride, and economic opportunity are not separate goals, but shared outcomes.”

Community engagement is central to the program’s success. Input from residents, local organizations, schools, and faith-based groups will guide project implementation, ensuring that efforts are culturally relevant and responsive to community priorities. Partnerships with community-based organizations and local businesses will promote transparency, collaboration, and accountability throughout the project.

“We are transforming spaces, strengthening neighborhoods, and creating lasting opportunities that uplift our residents,” added Mayor Morrison. “Together, we are shaping a National City that honors its potential and inspires pride for generations to come.”
