COUNCILMEMBER MONA RIOS
Mona is a fourth generation National City resident and a lifelong public servant; she has lived her entire life in her community. As a mother and grandmother she understands prosperity and safety are needed to successfully raise a family in National City. Her work shows, that her focus is on the needs of the National City Families. She is an active Chamber of Commerce member, Rotarian, Community Volunteer, served as a Police Commissioner and has worked 25 years in Local Libraries. She is also a firm believer in giving back to her community by continuing to sponsor and support those activities that she and her children had been participants. Mona and her husband have three sons and two granddaughters. She raised her sons with the same values instilled in her by her father, Al Alvarado, special assistant to Congressman Bob Filner, and her mother, Rosalie Alvarado, National School District board president. Public service is a family tradition and her family history in National City has been a part of the growth from a small railroad town to the city today. Mona has a lifelong commitment to National City that runs deep. Thirty years ago Mona’s husband asked her to marry him, “She replied yes, as long as I never leave National City." It is with that same commitment then, that she has now to ensure that National City is a place where families and businesses are proud to call home.
