Adult Literacy ServicesThis program provides free one-to-one and small group tutoring to assist adults in improving their basic reading, writing, math, and computer skills.
LearnersThe National City Public Library offers a learner-centered and goal-oriented program. To enroll in the program, adults must be able to speak and understand English at a conversational level. We ask that learners commit to meet with their tutor for at least 2 hours per week. Tutoring takes place at the Library. We provide materials, support, and a comfortable learning environment. Contact us if you or someone you know is looking for help with basic reading, writing, or math.
TutorsTutors are volunteers from the community who give their time to help others with basic reading and writing skills. We ask for a 6-month commitment to meet with a learner for at least 2 hours per week. No tutoring experience is necessary, but patience and a sense of humor are appreciated. We provide training, support, and materials to help you be successful. Please contact us for more information or if you are interested in tutoring.
Families for LiteracyThe National City Public Library’s Literacy Services enable adult learners to improve their basic literacy skills. Adult learners who are the primary caregivers of children ages 0 to 5 are able to take part in the Families for Literacy program. The goal of Families for Literacy is to introduce adult literacy learners and their families to the value and joy of reading as a family.
