All dogs more than four months of age are required by State and Municipal law to be licensed. Municipal law also specifies that a dog, validly licensed in another jurisdiction that remains within the corporate limits of the city for more than thirty days must be licensed by National City.
The law also requires a rabies vaccination that is valid for the term of the dog license. Dogs that have been microchipped for identification and meet all other requirements for licensing can be issued a one-time free license for one year.
Purchasing a Dog License
In PersonDog licenses may be purchased from the City of National City Finance Department.
Be sure to provide a copy of your dog's rabies vaccination certificate good for the term of the license.
By MailDownload and complete the dog license form, and then mail it with your payment to the National City Finance Department address listed above. The application must include a copy of your dog's rabies vaccination certificate good for the term of the license, and a check/money order for the price of the license payable to the City of National City.
A license can be obtained for a period of one to three years depending on the pet's vaccination records. There is a limit of three dog licenses per household.
The Police Department's Animal Control Division provides additional information on rabies clinics, spaying and neutering, and animal shelters.
