The City of National City is dedicated to improve the quality of life of all its residents by increasing public art throughout the City.  The City has established a Public Art Committee that reviews art projects and make recommendations to the Mayor and City Council.

A Avenue Mural

ARTS A Reason to Survive is creating a 300 foot mural located on A Avenue to depict storm water runoff. The mural will act as an educational, multimedia mosaic. Kids and artists have been diligently on this monumental masterpiece that is expected to be completed in the summer 2015. The art work will tell the story of how water makes its way from the headwaters, uplands, urban industrial areas, marshlands, and bay, then finally out into the ocean.

ARTS in partnership with the National City want inspire and educate citizens on the impact we have on watershed and what steps we can take to better conserve our dwindling natural resource. This mural is a small part of a major project that the City of National City is working on to bring awareness to the storm water system.

In addition to the ceramics, tile, and masonry the kids are getting lessons in geography, geology, geometry and more! The piece of art work will also provide many Sweetwater High School students with the opportunity to complete community service hours. For more information or to find out about volunteering contact
